Connecting, communicating, collaborating:

This is a non-commercial web site. It is a personal canvas to communicate a vision, dedicated to the forlorn future generations,  their true natural inheritance: how we can help them prepare for that which we cannot  face.

I don’t twitter or have a blog, but you can contact me for

creative collaborations in a more commercial capacity

by going to my company web site.

About this site

This web site is the creation of jim gilliland.

The domain name was registered back in 1999, with the intent of expounding the ideas of sustainability, in the face of an uncertain environmental future.

In the years since the site first went live on the web, much has changed with the technologies and scope of the internet, but the basic definition of sustainability expressed here has not changed.

It’s relevance has increased immensely in this time, despite the changing context of culture.

The word sustainable has been misappropriated many times in the wider media, so this web site aims to maintain an anchor to the core ground - the basics - and build from that foundation, into the future.

As such, this web site is merely one man’s vision.

Peering into the crystal ball, beyond our time, what picture of society, of the environment and of the economy do we see?

Do we see our children and grand-children poised on the precipice of a looted, polluted planet?

This web site will evolve and grow in the next few years, as we aim to present a sustainable vision of stewardship, of renewal and renewable dimensions.

a tool for the future generations

Sister site for community creation

This site has been designed using serif software.

The graphic portions were built from the ground up using firstly paper and pencil, followed by electronic versions in Drawplus X3.

Movie clips were constructed using Movieplus X3 and photo stock was compiled using  Photoplus X3 with the final web weaving done in Webplus X4.

Any bits of code, such as javascipt were inserted by hand, using notepad.  Any original code not built by the site creator (see left) is either credited in the code, or was generically compiled by the serif software generator.

The look of the site is hand-crafted, but may in places rely on standard royalty-free images, or from publicly available source images (from web) modified to suit.  Mainly, personal image stock and original artwork and images have been used, however, to create an authentic and original creation.

The site is best viewed in Firefox, but has been tested in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Image size wise, it has been optimised at 750px wide, to allow for those with older screen sizes.

Have you ever read a book that changes the way you see the world, the future and your role in it, what you can do?

The chalice and the blade by Riane Eisler is one such book.

In that book, the word Gylanic is introduced and explained.

It changed my view - forever.

As a result, a sister web site, www.gylanic.org.uk

was set up, to act as a bridge to a future partnership society, a place where community can be explored, using the net.

Although the web pages are currently underdeveloped, the gylanic site hosts some small email communities and will build upon this, over time.

Content is all original and wherever references are made to quotations, sources will be provided.

We may add files and pages sourced from the net and from books or articles which have been collated over the last fifteen years.

For source-cited reference material, we will add corresponding links to those books through the likes of amazon, so authors can benefit from our referencing within these pages.

Content is king

Have you ever saved a web page and gone back later to find the original web site gone?

Sometimes, the original source file locations of articles quoted here might have been lost to the vagaries of time, so if you see something not referenced, which you recognize as your own work, let us know and we’ll credit your source or remove the item, according to your wishes.

In such cases, we cite “fair use” but will always endeavour to be fair in weaving our own tapestry from the multiple threads of ideas already out there in cyberspace, or the world at large.

Fair credit and respect

We use web tracking on all pages, to optimise the future design and flow of users to this site.
